How to Study Independently with the Internet
The Internet has established itself as the best place to look for accurate and updated information. You can search any subject you want, and you’ll find answers in such knowledge ports as Wikipedia, GoArticles or EzineArticles. Do you wish to learn to play drums? Have you always wanted to know how to draw a car? The Internet has it all. With so much information available, it’s no wonder that people are forsaking traditional learning aids, and start using the Internet to study independently.
If you are one of these self-sufficient students, you’ll need more than an Internet connection to achieve your goal. If you wish to transfer knowledge from the Internet into your brain, you need to show dedication and resolution. Having no teachers, quizzes or homework makes studying more enjoyable, but not less demanding. Use the following tips for studying with the Inetrnet:
1. Be determined. Once you have decided to learn, make it happen. There’s no one stopping you. Then again, there’s no one egging you on. So egg yourself on.
2. Mark your target. Make sure that your goals are well-defined and attainable. Do you know exactly what you’d like to study, and for what purpose? Have answers to these question before you begin.
3. Allocate time. There are no classes you must attend, but you still have to incorporate “study hours” into your weekly routine. Of course, time spent studying should be proportional to your study goals. If you plan a visit to Italy next year, and want to be able to chat with the natives, you’ll have to put in a good few hours every week.
4. Scour the Net. Now, you start learning for real. Search engines and Internet knowledge bases will help you locate the information you need in the Internet’s vast ocean of information.
5. Don’t neglect your practice. Being independent does not exempt you from practice. Find ways to exercise your brain.
6. Have fun. Now here is one important tip: try not to lose your enthusiasm for learning. Working alone can be tiring and frustrating, but the satisfaction from acquiring knowledge is wonderful recompense.
I congratulate you on your choice, and I’m sure you’ll find your studies interesting and enriching.
