College Of The Desert – A Closer Look

Posted by admin | College and University | Tuesday 23 June 2009 6:41 pm

Palm Desert California is the home to College of the Desert, an excellent higher learning institution in California.

It began its life in 1958 when Coachella Valley voters approved a new college district, including College of the Desert, a local two year college. The campus was begun in 1959 when a bond issue raised funds for construction. That meant funds for a 1961 construction that added nine buildings to the 160 acres in Palm Desert. A few years later the college was open for business.

In 1984 the College of the Desert moved into the arts by permitting McCallum Theater to build on campus. In return the college received use of the theater. It was used as an auditorium for school functions as well as a theater to stage campus musical productions. It was truly a win-win situation.

Golf course management and maintenance classes began in 1986. California State University opened a campus on the College of the Desert Palm Desert Campus to accommodate students who wanted to learn about this popular subject, especially in the west and CA.

College of the Desert celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2004. The institution celebrated with a complete renovation made possible by a $346.5 million dollar bond issue. A public safety academy was added along with other things. Work continued into 2008 when ground was broken on a new student services center.

College of the Desert became a top college. Today the college attracts students not only from CA, but also from around the country and around the world. To accommodate international students the college maintains a program that includes elements to help them fit into life at the school and in America. This includes multicultural training for all the students, so the 200 students from out of the country are more easily accepted.

College of the Desert offers both on campus and online degree programs in a wide variety of subjects. These include agriculture, architecture, art, automotive technology, business, communication and more. There isn’t only focus on academic learning, but also on trades and real work experience through hands on work training and student work programs.

People who serve in the military, veterans, have a special place at College of the Desert. There are a variety of programs to help veterans continue their educations after serving the country. These include programs to help veterans receive their military education help, determine which courses are right for them, and help with adapting military experience to school and public life.

One way or another, the College of the Desert has something to help almost everyone in their academic careers.

LMS Training for Human Health and Sensitivity

Posted by admin | College and University | Monday 22 June 2009 7:37 pm

LMS Training

“Know thyself,” the ancient Greeks once advised. In our information age, while it seems we have everything we’ve ever wanted to know just a few clicks away, it’s surprising that most people still don’t understand their own bodies. Some bodies of knowledge can be acquired using LMS training and online courseware.

If you are not medical student or a health care professional, you’re probably in the dark about most of what’s going on inside your skin.

Though LMS training is often used to supplement face-to-face training for medical professionals, there is also online courseware available for anyone who is interested in medical matters. LMS online courses include nursing, pharmacy, food and nutrition, and radiologic science.

Online courses and LMS training are being utilized more and more in the medical field, for various purposes.

For instance, cultural sensitivity training can be deployed using LMS training platforms. Aetna is one health insurance provider that utilizes online courseware to train nurses and doctors in cross-cultural issues.

One example of a cultural sensitivity issue requiring training in the medical field is that of chronic diseases in Latino communities; illnesses like diabetes disproportionately affect this demographic.  One example of a cultural sensitivity topic in the medical community is that of chronic diseases like diabetes, which affect the Latino demographic to a disproportionate degree. This is due in part to the fact that many Latinos in the U.S. immigrate from countries whose governments provide free or low-cost health care.

And of course, language differences drastically affect doctor-patient relationships.

In response to this situation, LMS training can provide doctors and nurses with ethnic diversity videos and Spanish resources which cover various medical issues.

Robust LMS features may include video and audio, podcast-creation, and screen-recording; as well as text, SCORM Publisher, test, quiz, and assessment features. Online medical information and training are expanding worldwide, partly due to the ease and convenience of LMS training. LMS training is convenient, affordable, and easy to use.

How to copy audio books to your MP3 player

Posted by admin | Online Education | Monday 15 June 2009 9:08 am

There’s no denying what a perfect combination audio book technology and the introduction of MP3 portable players have become.

You can now not only listen to your audio book on tape, compact disk or PC, but also on your very own MP3 player.

So, if you are like me and would greatly prefer the freedom of listening to your audio book on your MP3 player, rather than sitting at your Personal Computer, you can.

Now you will find the exact steps you can go through to make this possible.

NOTE- This guide is for Windows Media Player Version 10. If you currently have a previous version installed on your PC you can get the latest version from Microsoft's website.

Here's the exact link - http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download

First, you need to put the audio book into the computer from where you want to copy it to your MP3 player. If it is originally in a CD, you need to copy it from the CD into your computer.

Second, you need to find the USB cable that came with the MP3 player as all MP3 players use different cables. Once you have this cable you need to connect the MP3 player to your PC.

As soon as you plug in the USB cable to both your computer and MP3 player, your computer will indicate that it has found a new piece of hardware. If it doesn't indicate this, then something is wrong. Simply unplug it and try again.

Third, open your Windows Media Player and open the audio book you want to copy. This will open the audio book in the main display area of Windows Media Player.

Fourth, add the audio book to the Sync List of your Windows Media Player.

Fifth, now you should click on the Sync tab on the Windows Media Player. You will now see a pull-down arrow on the box to the left hand side of the Sync tab. Make sure you select the labeled "Removable Disk (E)" as the source where the audio book will be copied to.

Sixth, a display with an option will appear, "start sync". Go ahead and click on this option. When this is completed, Windows Media Player will show a message, a message telling you that it is transferring the audio book files to your MP3 player as "Removable Disk (E)".

Seventh, Once the sync process is completed you will need to verify that it is now actually on your MP3 player.

Lastly, ensure you click on your PC's hardware icon (located in your system tray) to "safely remove hardware". Be sure that you do not disconnect before you get the "it is now safe to remove the hardware" message. NOTE--not doing this before removing the USB cable can damage your computer and/or your MP3 player.

When all of this is done, you can then try to playback the audio book from your MP3 player. If you followed all the above steps you should find the audio book playing on your MP3 player.

If however you are using an older version of Windows Media Player, you can still follow the exact steps above. The main difference will be that where it said 'Sync' it will will say 'copy'. You can select this and go through the same steps as above transfer your audio book onto your MP3 player.

A really good place that I came across to get all your favorite audiobooks is

Spoken Network. You can locate them at:

The Value Of A College Education Should Not Be Ignored

Posted by admin | College and University | Saturday 13 June 2009 3:35 pm

If you’re a high school student, are you planning to go on to college? If not, you need to rethink your goals! Yes, college can be an expensive proposition, but there are many ways to tackle the financial obstacles.

Although it may sound like a tired cliché, it’s nonetheless true that a college education is the best investment you can make in your future. Here we’ll outline the arguments in favor of pursuing your college education, while dispelling the myths and excuses commonly used as arguments against higher education.

A lot of kids view school as a tiresome and boring interruption to other more interesting activities and lifestyles. You are more concerned to be out on your own and figure that if you get out in the working world, you’ll attain more independence and surely be able to advance, without the benefit of a college education. Just check your local newspaper listings to determine the truth or falsity of this premise.

Jobs which do not require a college education pay far less than those offered to college grads. Entry level jobs available to high school graduates are overwhelmingly offered at minimum wage. Chances are, you haven’t previously had to support yourself, paying for housing, utilities, food and clothing.

There is no room for extras if you are in a minimum wage scale or a survival wage. You can only hope that you can advance to a supervisory position in the future with wages only a bit higher than your entry level start and that’s the best that you can hope for.

Here’s a simple exercise that proves the point. Check your newspaper for housing. Choose a few ads which are in safe neighborhoods listing the amenities you need. Average the prices, including deposits and other fees. Ask friends in similar housing what they pay for their utilities.

Add in a monthly food budget of at least $175, as well as the cost of entertainment and clothing. Don’t forget car insurance and gas! Now figure your paycheck, based on 40 hours per week with a 15% deduction for taxes. Can you live on that? Even with a roommate, it’s tough. You’ll be walking into a situation with far less freedom than you now enjoy.

Let’s say your circumstances don’t allow you to continue living with your parents, so you must sustain yourself while getting a college education. Talk with your school counselor and your Human Resources department. Explain your situation. You’ll be shocked at the number of grants and scholarships available to help you get a college education.

Community colleges now offer distance learning, whereby you can work and attend classes online. Sure, progress may be slower, but the benefits of a college education last a lifetime. Even while working a full time job, you can easily earn a two-year degree through online coursework within three years.

Avoiding the lasting advantages you’ll gain with a college education is simply inexcusable. A college education is the only thing that you can be proud of that no one can ever take away.
